Bangladesh plans unified digital business ID to reduce startup registration to 14 days

BD · 14 Oct 2026

This opportunity page is a news article from BiometricUpdate.com (October 2026), not a tender notice. It reports that the Government of Bangladesh plans a unified digital identity framework for businesses. The plan is jointly led by the Ministry of Commerce and Invest Bangladesh. At its core is a unique business ID, a persistent digital identifier that government agencies would share. Entrepreneurs would apply for licences, clearances and approvals through one central digital platform. The government aims to cut business startup time from 180–355 days to about 14 days. Today, after company registration, firms must separately obtain trade licences, Tax Identification Numbers, bank accounts, sector-specific fire safety and environmental clearances, and an Import Registration Certificate before they can open letters of credit.

As described, the system would let businesses submit information once and share it across agencies. Registration documents would stay linked to the business identity, and authorised authorities could access them. Businesses could track the status of their approvals, see outstanding requirements and spot delays. Related work includes digitising company registration, connecting fire and environmental authorities to the central platform, and simplifying licensing. Some approvals may run in parallel or move to later stages of the business lifecycle. The single identifier could eventually replace existing identifiers, such as the 2022 Digital Business Identification Number (DBID) for e-commerce and the Unique Business Identity (UBI) under the Central Complaint Management System. Business activities such as banking, importing, exporting and digital transactions would then use one credential. No technical standards are named.

Officials expect initial outcomes within about a month, major components within six to seven months, and the full system operational within about one year. The article gives no procurement procedure, contracting authority, lots, contract value, duration, submission deadline, submission portal or bid language.

This is an announced government plan. No call for tenders or tender documents have been published, so no bidder requirements or award criteria exist yet. Any procurement for the business ID platform, agency integration or registration digitisation is still to come. Requirements will only be known once the responsible Bangladeshi authorities publish a formal notice.
